Doosan Infracore began its life in 1937 as Chosun Machine Works. The company, Korea’s first large-scale machinery factory, was set up in Incheon, becoming a state-run enterprise and being renamed Korea Machinery Industries Corp. in 1963. Then, it made contributions to Korea’s industrial modernization.
Doosan Infracore invested a total of KRW 28.8 billion worth of local and foreign funds (including a public loan worth D.M 41 million and a commercial loan worth D.M 30 million from Germany) in constructing the largest diesel engine factory in Asia at that time with a yearly production capacity of 60,000 units in a reclaimed coastal area near its Incheon plant site.
In the area of construction equipment, Doosan Infracore embarked upon the development of its own excavators in 1983 and succeeded in developing the 'SOLAR' series at the end of 1985. The company exported its SOLAR series excavators to the Netherlands in 1987, the first ever shipment of Korean heavy equipment overseas.
